Student Selection Procedure

Step #1; Observation: Once the Program Director has confirmed that you meet, or will meet the prerequisites before the first day of school, you will be contacted to make an appointment to observe the program at one of the clinical education sites. Appointments are made between August 15th and February 15th. You may expect this meeting to last 3 to 4 hours. Dress professionally. You will tour the radiology department and observe exam procedures and have the opportunity to talk to some of the students and technologists. You will also read the policy section of the Handbook for Student Radiographers, the Technical Performance Standards, and the Statement of Patient Confidentiality. These are forms you must sign indicating your understanding of what the school expects of its students professionally, academically, mentally, and physically. Observation times fill up quickly. Therefore, you are encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible.

Step #2; HOBET Test: All applicants meeting the admission requirements and submitting their application on or before the February 15th deadline will be invited to take the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET). This test will be administered approximately 2 weeks after the application deadline. The HOBET is an indicator of the academic skills necessary to be successful in an allied health school. The test is scored off-site and returned to the school within 7 to 10 working days. Everyone taking the test will be notified of the results. Those applicants who have a composite score of 64 or better will be invited to proceed to the interviews. A study guide is available at www.eriworld.com. A practice test is available at http://www.testpreview.com/hobet_practice.htm.

Steps #3 & 4; Interviews: The first interview will be with the Program Director, Clinical Instructors and a student representative. A group of applicants will be chosen to proceed to an interview with the Advisory Board, who will then select the class. The interviews will evaluate areas such as scholastics, written and oral communication, maturity, personality, professional demeanor and desire. All applicants will be notified of the Advisory Board's decision for enrollment on or before April 1st. The number of applicants chosen for enrollment will not exceed 15. All those not selected will become alternates and will be ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. In the event an accepted student declines to attend, the position will be offered to the 1st alternate and so on.
